Fossil Hills is situated on the farm Thornvilla in the Breede Valley between Robertson and McGregor. Thornvilla has been producing wine since 1950 and has been in the Naudé family for 3 generations and is currently a working wine farm.
Forming part of the McGregor Winery, grapes, plums, apricots and various vegetables are harvested each year by Botha and his two sons, Jacob & Anthon.
The name Fossil Hills comes from the fossils that were and are still found on the farm which date back to the fish age of 355 million years ago.

Up on the hillside with great views over the farm and valley, Stone Cottage is a cosy cottage with thatched roof. As one frazzled parent proposes, “I could watch my kids cycling for hours on the many farm tracks below us.” Maybe you should follow suit and earn some well-deserved R&R on the covered stoep.
Our mountainous scenery owes much of its rugged charm to the Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks, dating back to 355 million years ago.
This valley can be visited throughout the year as each season reveals a gloriously secret beauty, especially for bird watching, hiking, fishing, picnics, cycling and resting. Enjoy tranquil surroundings and real farm peacefulness.

Previously the venue of ‘Eseltjies Rus’ a Donkey sanctuary & restaurant just outside McGregor, this 5 bedroom main house and 3 bedroom annex has been transformed into a beautiful self-catering home.
Ideally suited for families, reunions and wedding accommodation that can accommodate up to 16 people.
With plenty of trees, a stunning garden and play area for the kiddies, this is the perfect break away weekend and the holidays.

The Lavender Cottage is situated on Thornvilla wine farm, just 3km from the quaint little village of McGregor.
From the front veranda you have a beautiful view over the vineyards as well as the McGregor Winery, McGregor town on to the Riviersonderend Mountains. There is also an indoor braai or fireplace as well as outdoor fire and braai facilities.

Aloe Cottage sleeps up to six guests (including the Annex) and sports a double room with en suite shower and bath, with a second room with two single beds.
From the private patio you have a beautiful view over the dam on your left and also a stunning view of McGregor to your right.
Here you can relax in peace while listening to the song of Fish Eagles. There is also an indoor braai or fireplace as well as outdoor fire and braai facilities.

WINE WALKS
McGregor is located just outside Robertson in the Western Cape of South Africa. The Fossil Hills Wine Walk includes a 3-day guided moderate experience with daily distances of between 10 and 15 kilometres. The trail will guide you through the beautiful McGregor valley and lead you to several Wine Farms in the area.
