The Sweetwell Farm has been owned and operated by the Cronje Family since 1986. It is a working livestock farm, comprising of a stud and commercial piggery. Conveniently located midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West on the R44, the farm is a great country-style getaway from the bustle of city life, yet close enough to either town to make for an easy drive.

The farm operates according to the highest international quality standards, adhering to the code of ethics as set out for good pig husbandry. Care is taken to provide an environment for the healthy growth of the animals, and the latest technology in feeding and well-being of the animals is applied. Cleanliness is paramount to any successful piggery, ensured in Sweetwell’s case by the constant supervision of Hennie and his son, Hannes.

Since it has always been necessary for a farmer to retain the strongest genes possible in his herd, a certain proportion of the pigs produced are retained for the sake of genetic improvement. The majority of stud pigs are sold to other stud and commercial farmers. Sweetwell Farm is known for its genetic quality.

Sweetwell Farm is also involved in giving back to “up and coming” farmers in the community through training, transferring knowledge and even purchasing livestock. Sweetwell Farm also facilitates week internships for veterinary students.
